Living in Sunset

Sunset is a small city at the north end of Davis County, Utah, with Roy and the Weber County line to its north. Hill Air Force Base lies to the east, Clearfield to the south, and Clinton to the west across the rails. The 2020 Census counted 5,475 people.

Morning

Sunset's coffee can come from Grounds for Coffee, on North Main Street. The Utah company says it opened its first shop in 1991. Its locations page lists the Sunset shop as easy to reach off I-15 and suggests a quick cup when heading north or south. Then visit Veterans Memorial Park, at the City Hall site on 1300 North, where the city's calendar lists a dedication on May 20, 2023. Homes here date back to the 1940s, the city says, when the government developed the Ogden Arsenal and Hill Air Force Base east of town.

Afternoon

Sunset keeps three city parks, and the city rents space at all three through its City Office. They are Central Park, John G. White North Park and Rachael Runyan Memorial Park. North Park doubles as the Sunset Skate Park. For lunch, pack a picnic; the City Office, at 200 West 1300 North, takes the park reservations. The Hill Aerospace Museum is 3.0 road miles away, just inside Riverdale. Visit Utah says the museum shows more than 75 historic aircraft, vehicles, munitions and artifacts. That's a lot of hardware for one afternoon.

Evening

Sunset's name is an evening story. Around 1916, the city says, several women admired the colorful sunset over the Great Salt Lake to the west and named the area for it. So yes, the town is named for the end of the day. The Sunset Room in the City Building can be rented for weddings and meetings. UTA buses serve Main Street. FrontRunner has no stop in Sunset. Clearfield's station is 3.3 road miles away, and Ogden's Union Station is roughly 8 to 9.

Seasons

Fun Days is Sunset's summer party, on the city's calendar every year from 2022 through 2026. In 2026 the calendar set it for July 17 and 18 at Rachael Runyan Memorial Park. The 2024 schedule listed a skate contest, a 5K, a Central Park breakfast and a parade on 250 West. The city's 2024 notice calls Winterfest annual and lists a chili cook-off at the City Building on February 2, 2024. And the city's calendar lists a Candy Crawl at City Hall on October 17, 2026.
