Living in Centerville

Centerville sits at the base of the Wasatch Mountains in Davis County, Utah, with Farmington to the north and Bountiful to the south. It was incorporated in 1915. The 2020 Census counted 16,884 people.

Morning

Centerville's Deuel Creek and Ford Canyon trails lead from town up into the Wasatch, a wake-up your calves will remember. Prefer flatter ground? Community Park has a lighted one-mile paved path and eight pickleball courts, so cardio comes in two flavors. Freedom Hills Park adds a nine-hole disc golf course, a veterans memorial and trailheads for hikers and horse riders. The Bonneville Shoreline Trail and the Legacy Parkway Trail link to trails across the region, so the only limit is lunch.

Afternoon

Centerville's Main Street keeps a piece of the 1860s. The Whitaker, a field stone home built around 1862, stands just south of City Hall as the city's heritage museum. It's on the National Register of Historic Places. Thomas Whitaker, a master carpenter, did all of its carpentry. He also helped establish Utah's silk industry from this property. Silk, in Utah: ambition was clearly in the water. At 285 North Main, Snelgrove Ice Cream scoops a Utah brand that says it has been handcrafted since 1929.

Evening

Centerville is home to the Davis Center for the Performing Arts, so a curtain call is close at hand. Community Park's one-mile paved path is lighted, so the loop brings its own lamps. When the day calls for a train, the Woods Cross FrontRunner station is 3.9 road miles from City Hall, and Farmington's is 6.1. By road, City Hall is 11.7 miles from the Utah State Capitol. Ogden's Union Station is 24.9 road miles to the north.

Seasons

Centerville's calendar includes an annual Fall Festival with a pumpkin carving contest. In 2026 the city scheduled it for Smith Park, also called Founders Park. That summer the city scheduled its 2026 Freedom Festival for America's 250th birthday. It listed a Parade on Main and fireworks at Community Park on July 4. In any season, you can trace the town's names. Thomas Grover settled first, in 1847. The place was called Deuel Creek, then Cherry Creek. An 1850 survey found it lay between Farmington and Bountiful.
