Living in Clearfield
Clearfield is in northern Davis County, Utah, bordered by Layton, Sunset, Clinton, Syracuse and West Point. In 1940 it had 982 people. The 2020 Census counted 31,909.
Morning
A Clearfield morning can start on a trail. The city says the Denver & Rio Grande Western Rail Trail extends from Clearfield's north and south borders. The city says it's part of the Golden Spoke network, more than 100 paved miles from Ogden to Provo, so pace yourself. North Steed Park connects to it, and Steed Pond has fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding. Then refuel at Star Cafe, on State Street, which serves breakfast and lunch. It says its food is prepared in "the heart of our Star hive," which makes breakfast sound like a group project.
Afternoon
Clearfield's Hamblin Park is dedicated to swings, the city says. It has eight belted swings and a 150-foot gravity rail swing. Island View Park brings a 9-hole disc golf course and a quarter-mile path. Fox Hollow Park doubles as an arboretum, with labeled trees native to the area. And Fisher Park has a 14,000-square-foot skate park. The city lists features named Flow Bowl, Love Seat, Combi Bowl and Death Box. Pick your feature wisely.
Evening
Clearfield's Steed Park has 16 lit pickleball courts, open until 11 p.m. The Clearfield Branch Library, on Main Street, was finished in 2021. The county says its design celebrates flight, a nod to nearby Hill Air Force Base. It's open until 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Navy's history here runs deeper. It began building a supply depot in 1942 that served three West Coast ports during World War II. Today that ground is the Freeport Center. Clearfield's FrontRunner station has been on State Street since 2008, 1.7 road miles from City Hall.
Seasons
Clearfield City's event list includes the 4th of July, the Pumpkin Float, Boonanza, Swim with Santa and the Tree Lighting Ceremony. For the winter months, the city says the small hills at Fox Hollow and Kiwanis parks are great for sledding. Indoors, the Clearfield Aquatic & Fitness Center on State Street has a lazy river, a lap pool and a hot tub. Outside, it adds a splash pad. The Freeport Center, the city's old Navy depot, now holds 78 buildings on 680 acres, its operator says.
