Living in Farmington

Farmington is the seat of Davis County, Utah, on a narrow strip between the Wasatch Mountains and the Great Salt Lake. It took its name in 1852, the year it became the seat. The 2020 Census counted 24,531 people.

Morning

A Farmington morning can start under the sycamores. The city says Main Street is lined with mature trees, mostly sycamores, in its Main Street Historic District. The town's oldest known standing building dates to 1853. A 1907 building the city bought for its City Hall in 1917 now holds the Farmington Historical Museum. Then point your bike toward the East Bench. The Farm, the city's bike park on the East Bench, signs its trails from easy to very difficult, so choose according to your pride.

Afternoon

A Farmington afternoon has its own soundtrack. If you hear screaming on a summer afternoon, relax: that's Lagoon. It has been in town since 1896, ten years after it opened as Lake Park on the Great Salt Lake shore. It's 1.3 road miles from City Hall. For a change of pace, Farmington Pond has a fishing dock and a hiking trail. North Cottonwood Commons, which shares its name with the town's first one, adds a splash pad, six pickleball courts and a wetlands boardwalk. At Station Park, Bonnie & Clydes is a cafe and deli.

Evening

Farmington's own FrontRunner station sits at a park-and-ride lot, 1.7 road miles from City Hall. Trains run north to Ogden and south through Salt Lake City to Provo. Drivers have 15.1 road miles to the Utah State Capitol and about 21 to Ogden. For a look at the lake's wetlands, go southwest to the Eccles Wildlife Education Center, 3.7 road miles from City Hall. Its exhibits, programs and nature trails sit on the Great Salt Lake Nature Reserve, near the Farmington Bay Waterfowl Management Area.

Seasons

Festival Days fills six days each July in Farmington. In 2026 the city's schedule ran Monday, July 6, through Saturday, July 11, with a parade, a concert and fireworks listed. The city already lists July 12-17 for 2027, so you have time to stretch. The city's history page says Farmington Canyon offers hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. And Lagoon, a Farmington neighbor since 1896, keeps its own calendar. Check it before you promise anyone a roller coaster.
