Living in South Ogden

South Ogden is a city in Weber County, Utah, with Ogden to its north and east and Washington Terrace and Riverdale to its west. Unincorporated Weber County lies to the southeast. The 2020 Census counted 17,488 people.

Morning

South Ogden mornings can start at Kaffe Mercantile, a coffee shop on Chambers Street. It calls itself Ogden's friendly neighborhood coffee shop and says it bakes its pastries fresh every morning. Then head to Burch Creek Park, at 4400 Madison Avenue, 1.0 road miles from City Hall. Per the city, the park sits along the Burch Creek corridor. Its guide lists eight pickleball courts, a hill climb structure, a maze and exercise stations. Getting lost in the maze is allowed. The creek carries the town's first name. The settlement was called Burch Creek, after Daniel Burch, Jr., one of the first pioneers to settle here.

Afternoon

Friendship Park, on 5500 South, can fill an afternoon on its own. The city lists three baseball fields, a soccer field, a football field, tennis courts and a paved walking path. Its large pavilion holds 30 tables. The city's Heritage Trail there has four monuments with three sides each. Nature Park, at 5875 South 1175 East, has trails through about 50 acres of open space. Its amphitheater holds 100 people and has shade sails in the summer. Parks open at dawn and close at dusk.

Evening

South Ogden evenings can start at Club Heights Park, which has a baseball diamond with lights and the city's only off-leash dog area. 40th Street Park sits at 40th Street and Adams Avenue, just west of the City Building. It has a skate park, tennis and basketball courts, and the city's Veterans Memorial. The city adds names to the memorial once a year, typically in October. South Ogden has no FrontRunner stop. The Ogden station sits 2.9 road miles from City Hall, and Roy's sits 5.9.

Seasons

The city's guide calls South Ogden Days its premier event. In 2026 its June calendar listed a pickleball tournament at Burch Creek Park and a Shakespeare in the Park show at the Nature Park. The schedule for the big day, June 20, listed a parade, a festival at Friendship Park and fireworks. When snow falls, Burch Creek Park has a sledding hill waiting. The town incorporated in 1936 with 800 people. From 1950 to 1970, the guide says, it grew two to three times faster than Weber County.
