Living in Riverdale

Riverdale is a city in south central Weber County, beside the Weber River. Ogden lies to the north, Roy to the west, and South Ogden and Washington Terrace to the east. Hill Air Force Base is to the south. The 2020 Census counted 9,343 people.

Morning

Riverdale mornings belong to the Weber River Parkway Trail. The city says it runs three paved miles through town, for walking, running, biking and roller blades. The city says the trail links into a ten-mile continuous route from the south end of Riverdale to the mouth of Ogden Canyon. Each of the three trailheads has parking and a restroom. Just south of the 600 West trailhead, the Riverdale Outdoor Fitness Park sets exercise stations along the trail. Near 1050 West and River Park Drive, a short fisherman's access trail leads to the bank of the Weber River.

Afternoon

Riverdale Park, at 4300 South Parker Drive, has room for a long afternoon. It has two large pavilions, two playgrounds, sand volleyball, tennis courts, a ball diamond and a half-mile walking path. Down the road at 4360 South Parker Drive, the Riverdale Community Center has a full-size gym, an exercise room and a game room. For a treat, Zeppe's Italian Ice & Frozen Custard is on Riverdale Road. It says it was established in Harrisville in 2007 and calls itself Utah's first Italian ice business. A bike pump track, opened in 2015, waits at the south trailhead by the Civic Center.

Evening

Riverdale is surrounded by two airports, the city says: Hill Air Force Base to the south and Ogden-Hinckley Airport to the northwest. J. Dawgs, also on Riverdale Road, says on its home page that a Fender Telecaster was pawned in 2004 to rebuild a small shack. Its stated ideas include that tin foil is better than plates. Napkins, it adds, are always optional. Interstates 15 and 84 both cross the city. Roy's FrontRunner station is 3.4 road miles from City Hall, and Ogden's is 4.0.

Seasons

Riverdale's biggest celebration of the year, the city says, is Old Glory Days on the Fourth of July. It brings a parade, booths and entertainment at Riverdale Park, sports tournaments and fireworks. The city also calls its Pedals & Paws Parade annual, with bikes, scooters, wagons and leashed animals welcome. Each October, the city holds a Community Halloween Party. Riverdale was settled in 1850, and Daniel Burch built a grist mill on the river's east side in 1853. Early names included Stringtown, Thompson's Settlement and Union.
